[015] YAKSHA

Raised with a live world music influence, Yaksha realised a love for roots music from the very beginning. Inspired by mixtapes given to him by Alpha & Omega over the years, he began experimenting with his own productions from the age of 15.

Since then, Yaksha has developed a deep stepper sound, driven by a conscious message and featuring trombone from his father.

Now having played through the original ‘Tip-A-Tone HiFi’ and supported Lee “Scratch” Perry, the underlying aim for Yaksha remains to reflect upon the foundations of the culture; and, as the name literally means, to respect the natural treasures within the trees roots. After starting an all vinyl record label back in October, Yaksha’s first 2 records sold out within days of release.

“Yaksha's sound is planted well within the roots of soundsystem music, with a spiritual, conscious message at its core.” – Nitelife Online.
